Who Am I?
My name is Baran Kaplan.
I was born in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1989. After completing my bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering in 2013, I worked in quantity surveying, site supervision, and cost estimation using tools such as Nemetschek Allplan, Autodesk, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Project.
During that period, I discovered my interest in software. I decided to leave my four-year civil engineering career behind. After spending about a year in Germany between 2017 and 2018 for language study, while also experiencing a different culture and broadening my perspective, I returned to Istanbul and started my IT career.
From Civil Engineering to Software Engineering
I initially focused on database management and database design. While working, I also completed a master's degree in Computer Engineering from 2020 to 2021, with a stronger focus on data science and web development.
That transition gave me a different perspective on software. I came into the field with an engineering mindset shaped by planning, structure, and practical delivery, and I still carry that perspective into the systems I build today.
Life Today
Since 2022, I have been living in Germany and hold a permanent residence permit (unbefristete Aufenthaltserlaubnis), which means I do not require additional visa sponsorship for employment.
Outside work, I enjoy traveling with my wife, making music, and cycling in nature.
